Deformation monitoring
Excavation, underpinning, pile driving and dewatering can move what is next to them. We set monitoring points on adjacent buildings, retaining walls, rail lines and utilities, survey a baseline before work starts with a Leica MS60 MultiStation, then re-read the same points on a set schedule. Each reading is compared to the baseline and to the project's alert and action thresholds, so the contractor and engineer know when something is moving. The work is led by Dr. Miima, whose research focused on deformation monitoring.

SCAN · SPECIALIZED
3D laser scanning, modelling & BIM
We capture buildings, facades, interiors, structures and sites with a Leica RTC360 laser scanner and MS60 MultiStation, register the scans into a single point cloud tied to the state coordinate system, and model what was captured. Architects, engineers and owners get accurate existing conditions for renovations, additions, clash checks and as-built records.

A surveyor's firm, run by a surveyor
Miima Surveying & Geomatics, LLC is a professional land surveying firm based in Montclair, New Jersey. We bring over 30 years of experience to boundary, topographic, engineering and construction surveying.
The firm is led by Dr.-Ing. John B. Miima, PLS, who brings combined experience in academia and professional practice across many facets of surveying and geomatics. He teaches geodesy, map projections, route surveying and new technologies in surveying practice, and his research focused on deformation monitoring. That background brings academic rigor to every survey challenge the firm takes on, from resolving a difficult boundary to planning a monitoring or scanning program.
Dr. Miima reviews and seals every survey that leaves the office, and clients deal directly with him from the proposal through delivery.
